It consists of a managed set of Clinical Research Networks, initially covering six priority areas - Cancer, Dementias and Neurodegenerative Diseases, Diabetes, Mental Health, Medicines for Children and Stroke, together with a Primary Care Research Network.
Following the launch of the NHS R&D Strategy Best Research for Best Health, the scope of UKCRN has been widened through the creation the NIHR Comprehensive Clinical Research Network (CCRN) within the NHS in England to encompass the full spectrum of disease and clinical need.
