My client, a specialist engineering company, very well established in their field are looking to recruit an experience Purchase Manager to join their business and drive it forwards.
THE ROLE
To support the Operations Manager by assisting in the co-ordination of contact between the company and suppliers, maintaining relevant records, supplier database, and liasing with suppliers on an ongoing basis
To contribute to supplier development and to the overall cost saving programme
To assist in the development and implementation of the quality management system and continually improve its effectiveness, in order for the Company to reach the objectives set out in the Quality Policy

ill be required to be a member of projects teams as required and to represent the purchasing function throughout the project
Co-ordinate the purchasing requirements within the project team
KEY TASKS
* Monitor stock levels
* Review and place orders based on MRP system and co-ordinate deliveries
* Liase with other departments to ensure control of consumable stocks
* Manage raw materials consignment stocks
* Co-ordinate deliveries
* Monitor and report supplier performance
* Purchasing & cost reduction
* maintain records relating to exchange rates, copper and zinc, contracts, purchase orders and invoices checked
* identify cost saving opportunities and negotiate to secure best possible price whilst ensuring quality, quantity and delivery requirements are met
* Manage supplier relationships through regular meetings to ensure that quality, delivery and cost targets are met.
* Control and maintain the supplier database
* Work with suppliers to agree improvement action plans and ensure improvement actions are carried out
* Maintain effective relationships with all suppliers through effective communication
* Source and develop new suppliers to VTL & other relevant standards
* Reports
Collating and compiling of month end reports, KPIs and annual budgets
THE PERSON
The ideal candidate will have previous experience of purchasing
* Must be hands on
* Demonstrated ability to work on own initiative and work under pressure
* You will be proactive in your approach to driving costs down and increasing efficiencies with the logistics team
* Good communication and negotiation skills
* Flexible
* Willingness to develop own skills and knowledge in line with business needs
* A passion for challenging the status quo
Organised & able to prioritise tasks
* 3 years minimum experience in a purchasing environment
Knowledge of consigned stock
CIPS certified or working towards certification
Ability to transfer skills and knowledge to others
* Practices effective customer / supplier relationships
