    My client was formed in 1935 to provide cutting-edge Engineering solutions. In the last 70 years the company has grown and diversified into a global group. There products and services are used daily in prestigious buildings and civil engineering structures throughout the world.

    They are currently looking to employ a quantity surveyor, with a 2:1 or 2:2 degree in Quantity Surveying. Ideally a post graduate looking to start there career or someone with around 1-2 years experience as a trainee.

    Reporting to the general manager and the operational manager, you will be responsible for Managing all costs relating to projects from the initial calculations to the final figures, seeking to minimise the costs of a project and enhance value for money, whilst still achieving the required standards and quality.

    Key Responsibilities:
    · managing costs on a wide variety of building projects and structure;
    · undertaking costs analysis for new build, repair and maintenance project work;
    · assisting in establishing a client's requirements and undertaking feasibility studies;
    · preparing early stage budgets and detailed cost plans;
    · performing risk and value management and cost control;
    · advising on procurement strategy;
    · preparing tender and contract documents, including bills of quantities;
    · identifying, analysing and developing responses to commercial risks;
    · preparing and analysing costings for tenders;
    · establishing and operating cost and financial control systems;
    · allocating work to subcontractors;
    · negotiating to ensure budgets are not exceeded;
    · Managing and costing/valuing variation works;
    · providing advice on contractual claims;
    · analysing outcomes and writing detailed progress reports;
    · valuing completed work and arranging payments;
    · developing knowledge relevant to contract conditions and their applications;
    · maintaining awareness of the different building contracts in current use;
    · general project coordination for materials and plant;
    · understanding the implications of health and safety regulations

    Key Skills:
    · Quantity Surveying Degree;
    · Knowledge of the construction industry and business needs;
    · Logical and well organised with ability to prioritise;
    · Numerate and accurate;
    · Good Communication and IT skills;
    · Positive response to pressure;
    · Capable of working with the minimum of direct supervision;
    · Neat, tidy and careful;
    · Ability to learn new IT systems quickly without fuss;
    · Confident in dealing with other staff;
    · Good telephone manner.

    This position is to start asap with a salary of between £20k - £30k depending upon skills and experience.
