Job Description

As the sole supplier to the LTH we are currently recruiting for an Assistant Quality Manager to work on a 6 months contract basis. The role is working full time, 37.5hrs per week and the rate of pay will be £10.86ph. The post holder is responsible for supporting the Quality Manager to facilitate the ongoing accreditation and development of the quality systems within Oncology and Physics, working with Medical, Nursing, Management, NHS Blood and Transplant Service and Heads of Support Services. The post holder will assist the Quality Manager in the development of a quality programme across all of Oncology and Physics based upon the systems established for The Yorkshire Blood and Marrow Transplant Programme [YBMTP] (governed by JACIE* and the HTA†), Radiotherapy (governed by BSI‡ ISO 9001:2008) and the Haematological Malignancy Diagnostic Service [HMDS] (governed by CPA§). This is to ensure good clinical practice across the service.

The post holder will be key in the development of and for training staff in using our electronic document software, EQMS, along with helping to manage the review and update of documents within the system. The post holder will also be involved in the development and maintenance of audit schedules, service improvements and root cause analysis where needed, within Oncology and Physics (OaP).

Quality system(s) and / or projects will be allocated to the post holder who will be responsible for their day to day management. The post holder will be expected to attain basic knowledge of all areas to be able to deputise for the Quality Manager as required.

The post holder will work with Medical, Nursing, Management and Administrative colleagues within Oncology and Physics and outside, to support the Quality Manager in the development, implementation and maintenance of the current quality systems and in moving towards quality systems for all services within Oncology and Physics.

 The post holder will support the Quality Manager and the Blood and Marrow Transplant Centre in the continued fulfilment of the JACIE accreditation and Human Tissue Authority licensing.

The post holder will support the Quality Manager and the Radiotherapy Service in the continued fulfilment of the ISO 9001:2008 BSI Standards.

The post holder will support the Quality Manager and the HMDS labs in the continued fulfilment of the CPA standards.

The post holder will be jointly responsible for EQMS training and promotion.

The post holder will be jointly responsible for the issue and document control of all policies / procedures within their areas and also for ensuring review dates are notified to the Quality Manager and added to the agenda of the appropriate document review meeting.

The post holder will support the Quality Manager in ensuring continuous improvement across all aspects of the Directorate through audit, patient questionnaires and service improvement initiatives.

The post holder will support the Quality Manager in ensuring continuous improvement across all aspects of the Directorate through audit, patient questionnaires and service improvement initiatives.   The post holder will be expected to be familiar with office systems and be computer literate with working experience of word processing, databases and spreadsheets. The post requires accuracy and attention to detail and the ability to work to tight timescales. The applicant must be educated to degree level standard, or equivalent, with a good quality standard in English and Mathematics, and must possess excellent computer skills using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) (ECDL or equivalent). Knowledge of Microsoft Access and working with such databases is desirable. The applicant should possess excellent communication skills both written and oral. The post holder will need to be able to communicate complex and potentially sensitive data (e.g. pt outcomes / survival data). Communication will be with staff members within the Directorate but also with other Directorates, (e.g. medical physics, paediatrics, pathology, immunology) or external agencies (e.g. NOVA Healthcare our Private Patient Partners, NHSBT, bone marrow donor registries, BSI or other NHS Trusts).

Previous experience of organising and setting up of office based systems is required together with ability to show initiative in supporting the Quality Manager in driving the programme forward. Knowledge of quality systems and service improvement initiatives is essential. Knowledge of the health service generally would be beneficial along with knowledge of oncology, haematology, clinical trials and research, though not essential.
